The initial two classrooms will house the kindergarten class and Primary Grade 1. Each classroom has its own bathroom facilities, a side area for the teacher's desk and a bed. The classrooms are linked by a single covered walkway in front.
Funding for these classrooms is part of a larger funding drive aimed to build our new school for stateless children in Fang district, Chiang Mai province. The students are the children of local migrant workers and, because the vast majority have been born in Thailand after their parents arrived here, they are stateless - without Thai citizenship or the citizenship of their parents (mainly from Myanmar).
This lack of citizenship causes many issues, particularly gaining an education in a system which is largely unsuitable for the type of lives these children are subject to.
The classrooms will be a safe place of learning, taught in a manner which will be beneficial to them during, and once they leave, their education.
